Howard University Graduate Programs in Communications

Description: Graduate Studies in the John H. Johnson School of Communications can introduce you to applied professional skills and traditional scholarly research.

The applied professional program in the School is offered through our Master of Fine Arts in Film program (MFA-Film). This program is housed within the JHJ SOC. This hands-on program provides students with a sound and balanced education in film studies. To apply for the MFA program, download the application from the Office of Admissions. For more information, call 202-806-7927.

The traditional scholarly programs are housed in the Graduate School, but the faculty also hold appointments within the JHJ SOC. Three major areas of study are offered: Communications Sciences, Communication and Culture, Mass Communication and Media Studies. We offer master’s and doctoral degrees. Detailed information about the three programs is available through the Graduate School. Applications for admission may be downloaded and printed or students may apply online.
