The Documentary Center is an expansion of a 19-year commitment at The George Washington University to teach documentary film production theory and techniques and to create documentary films for national audiences. Inaugurated in 1990 as The Center for History in the Media, the Documentary Center is one of the few educational centers in the nation that focuses exclusively on the production of non-fiction filmmaking.

The Documentary Center is an interdisciplinary program at the school of media and public affairs in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.

The goals of the Center are:

* To develop seminars and institutes to train individuals from across the professional and educational spectrum in the theory and techniques of documentary filmmaking.

* To consult with broadcasters and production entities on the development of high quality documentaries and to promote the creation of national and international documentary showcases.

* To produce documentary programming for national audiences.

* To encourage the production of documentary films by emerging filmmakers.

* To write for popular and scholarly publications on issues of concern in the creation and production of non-fiction films.

The Documentary Center sponsors a wide-range of activities concerning reality films. Our central educational program is the annual six-month Institute for Documentary Filmmaking. In addition to serving as a consultant to many nascent documentary projects, we sponsor various community innitiatives such as Docs-in Progress, and filmmakers screening showcase and Women in Film and Video's professional development seminars. Finally, the Center produces award-winning documentary films for audiences accross the world.

Adobe Dreamweaver: Application Development provides students with the knowledge and hands-on practice they need to build and manage dynamic websites using Dreamweaver. In this course, you’ll learn how to connect to a database, search and display results, and build a page to
update the database. If you’ve always dreamed of building a more advanced, data-powered site, but didn’t know where to start, then this course is for you.

This course is for people new to Dreamweaver (or who have used it only to build static web sites) that want to use it to create data-driven web applications. To take this course, you should:

The Pocono Mountain Workshops were established as a way to give film and Video professionals, as well as new-combers to the field, the opportunity to learn just how to establish a great production look for any program, regardless of the camera format or capture medium.

The Camera workshops are taught with a cinematic approach as a way to bridge the Film Look to Video (HD) capture gap. The workshop will delve into composing a shot for design and the psychology of the frame. Other topics include focal lengths along with the cinematic movement of the camera and what the move means. We will block and shoot a theatrical scene in order to experience common mistakes when shooting a small feature.

These NO BULL-NO FLUFF workshops will teach you what feature film DP's have known for years as we apply the same techniques for use with video (HD) formats. The weekend workshops are designed to give you as much experience as possible in the time frame allotted, so come prepared to work! The workshops are held in the studio at Tom Musto Productions Inc.

Other workshop topics include aspect ratios, lens focal lengths & depth-of-field, coverage and continuity and what they mean to a scene. The weekend is an intense journey into how the camera works as an extension of the creative film/video making process and is designed for the serious video/film maker.
